Jennifer Lopez said she’d want Selena Gomez to portray her in a film about her life.
“I would want Selena Gomez to play me in a movie,” the 44-year-old singer-actress said in a recent interview, according to Newsday. “She is a cutie.”
It seems like only yesterday when Lopez made her big break in film starring as the late Tejano singer in the 1997 biopic “Selena,” the singer whom Gomez, also a Texas native, was ironically named after.
After countless films, 10 studio albums, TV hosting gigs and work behind-the-scenes, Lopez is at the point in her career where she could very well be portrayed in a biopic.
Who better to play her than the pop star who’s been pegged “a new JLo.”
“I kind of feel she’s going to be like a new JLo kind of thing,” Jason Evigan, producer of Gomez’s first solo album “Stars Dance,” said in a previous interview.
In fact, the ladies were both bidding on the same song, “Save the Day.” that Gomez eventually nabbed for her album.
“Jennifer Lopez wanted (the song) really badly,” Evigan said, according to HollywoodLife.com.
For Gomez, 21, the challenge of playing an icon like Lopez may be exactly what her flourishing career calls for.
“I just want to keep getting better,” Selena told the Daily News in a previous interview.
“The only way to get better is to just keep doing it,” she added. “That’s why I want to take a break (from music) … I want to really be the best (actress) I can be.”
Reps for both have yet to respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
