After breaking record in September box office, the Sony Pictures Animation movie will get a follow-up treatment which is still looking for a new director.

Recently scoring big success on box office, “Hotel Transylvania” is set to get a sequel treatment. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Animation is already planning “Hotel Transylvania 2″ which is projected to be released sometime in 2015.

The sequel is still in the early stage of development and still hasn’t tapped a new director. The original helmer, Genndy Tartakovsky, seemingly will not return to the follow-up pic since he’s now committed to Sony’s other animation project “Popeye”, which is set for a September 26, 2014 release.

The first “Hotel Transylvania” movie was released this past September 28 to a record-breaking opening weekend. Scoring $42.5 million in its first week, the film scored the biggest September opening of all time, besting “Sweet Home Alabama” which collected $35.6 million in September 2002. It also becomes the best result to date for Sony’s animation unit. So far, the film grosses more than $253 million worldwide.

One of the reasons behind the success of the animated movie was because of its starry voice cast ensemble that included the likes of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon and Cee-Lo Green.

Animation heavyweights Pixar, Disney, Sony and DreamWorks look set for another battle royal at the Oscars – the studios represent six of the 21 films under Academy Award consideration.

Hits such as Brave, Frankenweenie, Wreck-It Ralph, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, and Hotel Transylvania will battle it out for a spot on the five-strong nominees list in January (13) after the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences announced its shortlist on Friday (02Nov12).  ParaNorman, Dr. Seuss’The Lorax, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Ice Age Continental Drift also make the list, as does acclaimed South African film Adventures in Zambezia and France’s Zarafa.  Although Hotel Transylvania is very definitely a film for little ones (Pixar’s Up and Wall-E, for example, are both films primarily for grown-ups), there is certainly enough here to keep accompanying adults amused.  Suitably themed for a Halloween treat, Hotel Transylvania has single dad Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) at its heart.

Monsters like vampire Count Dracula are no longer the threat to human life they once were, having evolved to become a peaceful race.  However, humans still being afraid of their kind would, by contrast, kill a monster on sight.  As a refuge from the human world, Dracula builds a holiday resort just for monsters and soon enough it’s filled with vacationing mythical fiends.  When a teenage boy turns up and falls in love at first sight with his teenage daughter, Dracula must find a way to come to terms with the impending womanhood of Mavis (Selena Gomez) and let her begin to make her own way in the modern world.  What do you think of this?  Which movie do you think will win?
